Maps + Markers was founded to bring senior-level wayfinding thinking to project teams that need focused design expertise without the complexity of a large firm.

Our background includes 30+ years of collaboration with leading architectural and design firms, developers, institutions, and project teams across strategy, design, documentation, and signage system planning.

We understand how signage systems can become fragmented between design intent, documentation, budgeting, fabrication, and field conditions. Our role is to help teams address those issues earlier through clear thinking, coordinated planning, and practical design packages.

This early hands-on process of using printed maps, colored markers, and Letraset lettering to diagram and study wayfinding inspired the name Maps + Markers.

Visual System Components.

  • We study circulation, decision points, destinations, and user needs to create clear, intuitive wayfinding systems. Strategy is established early so signage supports the architecture, operations, and overall user experience.

  • We plan exterior signage that strengthens arrival, establishes identity, and guides vehicles and pedestrians across the site. Each element is coordinated with architecture, landscape, visibility, and approach conditions.

  • We develop interior systems that integrate directional wayfinding, room identification, accessibility, regulatory, and life-safety requirements. Required signage is treated as part of the project’s broader visual language rather than an afterthought.

  • We create experiential graphics that reinforce identity, express character, and build a stronger sense of place. Branding, storytelling, art, and architectural graphics are integrated into the environment in a thoughtful, cohesive way.
